I am looking to make my shifter a lightsaber handle but can not find anything, there are several modifications I would like to make but I am finding it hard to locate anything to help me. Does anyone have some creative ideas that may help to get me started?? thanx bunches

You've come to the right place... for starters, what sort of car do you have and how far do you want to take it?

Hi and thanx for the reply, I have a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. interior grey exterior slate blue. I love the Dark Side of the force because I figure you can have more fun that way...lol...but I'm not sure how far I want to take it. I'm going to make my own car seat covers and also a cover for my steering wheel, but I am girl on a BUDGET! I just got my first place and a brand new car. I'll tell you that I really want a lightsaber handle shifter. that is #1 on the priority list. I am looking for creative ideas that can help me make some things myself. The more I make myself the more custom to my personality it will be. My insperation is the Death Star, but basically the dark side too. Vader and the Death Star...doesn't get better than that. thanx again!!! deathstargirl

Glad to hear of another squadmate on the road! The first step is admitting your addicted to star wa... oops wrong speech... lol my first suggestion is to make a large decal for the hood that is the gun - have the crosshatchings of sectors and segments around it but that will be the key to showing what it is. make window decals that show: 1. the imperial insignia and/or 2. small tie fighters looking as if they're comming from the car. on the interior DEFINITELY freeze-frame the Death Star panels and try to recreate them - all of them, some of them, it doesn't matter. that's just what I have off thetop of my head. good luck

I think if you're on a budget, you could start off with some vinyl decals like dragolordist suggested. As for the lightsaber shifter... Have you looked at the Lightsaber toys that Hasbro makes? I bet you could easily convert one of those to a shift handle. Or if you want a more prop like look, try making a hardware saber that would fit over the shifter... have you got any prop building experience?
Also, the first thing that popped into my mind when I read your post was an old idea I had for a Deathstar shifter converted from a micro machines die cast Deathstar. I had a little plastic deathstar on my truck's antenna for a while, but it got lost (or possibly stolen) after 6 months or so.

Thank you everyone for the great ideas!! I have thought of using a toy lightsaber for the shifter, and no I have no experiance building anything...lol... I am basically trying this out for the first time EVER.
The decals are a great idea I want the imperial logo on my gas cap and I would like a large one on my hood, but I don't really get how to make one. The small one I can do on the computer but I have no idea how to make one for the hood. And where the heck would I get the vinyl for that?

beats me lol sorry. what I was thinking was via the computer and making sections to place together. Put up some pics of your car and I'm sure people will be able to help more. I'd do a concept design for you if you wanted.

real quick test pic, not sure if this the exact color, but it's what came up for a blue 06 Sonata... You can get those vinyl decals from a tint shop... there are even places in the mall here that cut them too. Or you could get them online, one place I know of is here: www.marketworks.com/StoreFrontProfiles/DeluxeSFItemDetail.aspx?sfid=35358&c=&i=16803334I bought a small decal for the back window of my truck... I also asked about some custom decal wok I thought I wanted and they were helpful. You could probably get them to resize that logo to however big you want the one on your hood... but the price would go up with the size I'm sure.

Deathstargirl, welcome aboard. (Even though you are making this Jedi nervous with all this Glory for the Empire talk :ROTFL: ) I'm currently working on Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter. Same as you, female, with no real propmaking experience. But everyone here is great. AND very VERY supportive! So, I'm learning, bit by bit. I love the photoshopped pic above.. That looks great! Also love the idea for a lightsaber shifter. I would go with the homemade/hardware based saber. The only reason is that I'm wondering if the Toy sabers would stand up to the use. (being plastic and all that). I'll also start thinking about it, and see what I can come up with. I really understand that "----- Is a PRIORITY!" Mine is the R4P17 on the back like Obi-Shawn has R2 on the back of the H-Wing. Hmmm didn't think of doing decals For the "Kills" I was going to do mine airbrushed stencile...you know..destroyer droids, Droid Army, Darth Maul ...cut in half..., Greivious blowing into bits, Anakin..arm and legs flying. So for the Death Star...Aldaaran going "poof" might be an idea! So welcome to the squadron. And let us know how we can help. Kim/Kenobi

BTW DonSolo. THANKS for the link to the stickers. I know I have to get the Republic Emblem (the almost Impy but not quite one that Obi has...NOW I'v found a place!) Thanks again! (P.S. Seeee how this all works, Deathstargirl! One thing leads to another... to another...we are all in a symbionic relationship!) (Great now I'm semi-quoting..time to go back to working on the Thesis. LOL) Later Gang!

sorry about all of the darkside talk...but you know how it goes...lol... well I have the material to start the seat covers and they will have death stars on the head rest and the imperial emblem on the butt of the seat. I am goign to purchase the small decal to put on the gas cap and then see where I am at for cash it stinks to have to be so tight. My friend courtney and I want to get a small projector and see if we cant somehow make a projection on the sealing of the death star plans. like the rebels had. so we will see about that. but that is all for now thanx for all of the great ideas!!!
