It's hard to find a good mechanic. Especially one who won't try to write off strange cars as lost causes. Finally, after... seven years of looking for a mechanic that isn't completely lame, I found one. In seven years, it has never run better. They did such a great job (and managed to find all the quirks I *knew* were there: something every other mechanic I took it to completely failed to do), I want to send them a Thank You card. Or a fruit basket, or something. If you're anywhere near West Seattle and need anything done, I highly reccomend you call [glow=yellow,2,300]Doyle Automotive.[/glow] I can't even begin to tell you how pleased I am with their work. Have a mechanic worth absolute loyalty? Post their name and location, and perhaps also their searchable yellowpages.com name so we can find them. I can't help but thinking that a thread about places not to go would be a whole lot longer.

I found one that totally rocks up here in MN. I took my 'oil leak' to 3 different shops... all were like "oh, this was loose so we tightened it" "that was worn out so we replaced it" Whatever....
Bill Haugh at Amoco Autocare in Eagan is totally the guy to see. Just by TELLING him what my problem was, he said he was "95% sure it's a loose seal on your cam drive" And dangit! He was right!!
Sweet thing is - now that I've moved, he's only like 3 blocks away!
I will take my car to him from now on. May cost a little more than a 'normal mechanic' but stang! He's good!

My car is once again in the safe hands of my mechanic. She was sputtering, and shaking really bad while idleing... sounded/felt like something was... missing. Not catching. Guess my spark plugs & wires were like 20,000 miles over due to be replace. Who'ha'thunk? God... sometimes I feel sooo stupid.

Hey, don't feel bad! I was looking into the engine bay on the bus, and checking out general condition, and thought I would check out the distributor cap and plug wires........
DOH!
Note: Diesels don't HAVE spark plugs! I should know this, I have (for 3 more weeks until it goes home with it's new owner) a 32,000 pound fire truck with a monster diesel.... I guess I was just looking at that little rusty motor in the bus and expected it to have more to it.
On other notes, I've been cleaning up stuff in my shop, and have been finding all sorts of interesting cruft that might make some cool laser guns, and a couple of industrial VCR's that have big shiny read heads (round ridged wheels about 3 inches across) that just scream they want to be part of a light saber. I'm going to HAVE to have a "Jedi Gunrack" in the bus.... a saber or two, some blasters..... *grin*
