Artscape is happening in Baltimore right now. Meerkat Six has still not been recovered, nor the other two cars. But I do have a new (to me) car, a 1999 Honda Civic 2-door hatchback; I'll be attaching some magnets to it (including Meerkat Six's ID), and driving in tomorrow's art car parade, if all goes well. But what to do for the future? I'd still like to have a Star Wars car.
Any suggestions would be appreciated -- as well as any sign that this board isn't completely dead.

Hi Darth Marmalade, I too am a fellow Marylander, sorry to hear about your cars getting lifted. I would have remembered Meerkat Six if I saw it at Crazy Rays (Jessup and Mt. Airy). I've been trying to get a '90 Shadow up to snuff for almost a year now and troll those yards pretty regularly for parts. I've spent a LOT of time under the hood of a '99 civic and would love to pass some tech info on if you want to give it a hyperdrive or even a functional navi-computer.
On paint; it's a moot point for now, but the best and honestly the ONLY way I've found to get rid of rust is sanding to bare metal then coating with a rust converter product. Rustoleum Rust Converter works nicely but will set you back about $10 a can which covers about 12 square feet (a roof or most of a hood), you can "weather" later by adding a plethora of "patina"(faux rust) products, then seal with a good clear coat. (That's how I would do it anyway).

I need to check this board more often, but as things are so quiet lately, I've got out of the habit. Here are some photos from Artscape: And the rest of my Artscape photos may be found here: picasaweb.google.com/darthmarmalade/ArtscapeBaltimore2010?feat=directlinkMostly other art cars -- there's a Back to the Future time machine that a fellow made from a Dodge Daytona, which has a shape similar to a DeLorean, but is more accessible to the impoverished artist. tom0: Whereabouts in Maryland are you? It sounds like you're a little west of Baltimore, and me, if Jessup and Mt. Airy are your closest Crazy Ray's. The closest to me are Hawkins Point... and Jessup. There was one fellow with a Star Trek car who wanted to organize a presentation on sci-fi cars for Shore Leave, but he backed out, my car was stolen, and my friend who brought his replica Bluesmobile wasn't ready to lead a program item. But I've been thinking about other fannish cars -- there's the fellow with his BTTF car, there's someone in the Bowie area with a brilliant 1960's Batmobile. Any station wagon could be the basis of a Ghostbusters car, and I'd love to see a replica of Buckaroo Banzai's Jetcar. The Corvette from Heavy Metal would be trivial (if expensive and impressive), but the Firebird from South Park's "Major Boobage" Heavy Metal parody would be hysterical, imo. And now I'm just babbling. But it's good to see I'm not the only one still checking in.

That blows on the theft.
Is that mostly it for your new design or you have longer term plans for the paint work? I like the front angle.

Oh! Yeah, I've got vague plans for proper paint for the car, and I like what happened when I tried to re-mount Meerkat Six's hyperspace engines on the new car, so I've sketched some ideas further along those lines. But no real progress so far.
